Mr Jonah Okah, former aide of the 2015 All Progressives Congress Governorship candidate in Bayelsa has been remanded in custody following a petition from a staff of the Governor of the State.
Government sources from the south-south state which is home to former President Goodluck Jonathan, believe Mr Okah, a civil servant who served as the chief speech writer for Chief Timipre Sylva was arrested for a critical post about Mr Dickson and another comment he made on Facebook regarding the arrest of Mr Richie Etonye, the Chief Accountant of the Bayelsa State Government.
The Bayelsa state police confirmed Mr Okah’s arrest on Thursday 1 September. They say it was spurred by a petition from Mr Ekonye.
Insiders revealed that the lawyer-cum-journalist is being held in a cell at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department, Yenagoa for criticising Mr Etonye in a Facebook post. They say his arrest has the backing of the State Governor, Mr Seriake Dickson.
Mr Okah had claimed in a Facebook post that Mr Etonye had confessed to him in a telephone conversation, to running with the sum of $4.6 million belonging to state government.
Mr Etonye denied having such conversation. About 50 officers stormed Mr Okah’s house in Yenagoa on Wednesday 30 August when he was arrested.
He was remanded in Okaka Prison by Magistrate Pere Bossa of Magistrate Court 7 for Criminal defamation of Mr Etonye.
The matter has been adjourned to September 20th.
