The first Love Lagos Town Hall meeting in London has been deemed a success.
The event which took place today, at the Woburn House Conference Center in Tavistock Square, to promote tourism in the former Capital of Nigeria runs till August 29.
Over 100 specially invited guests attended the conference. They celebrated the achievement of Lagos State under Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s “able leadership.”
Other objectives of the Love Lagos Weekend are “to gain insight into investments in Lagos State, provide platform for interaction with Lagos Indigienes of the State and lovers of Lagos State in the Diaspora and plan towards Lagos at 50 celebrations.”
Mr Steve Ayorinde, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy led a delegation which includes- the SA to Governor Ambode on Overseas Affairs and Investment, Professor Ademola Abass; Special Adviser to the Governor on Arts and Tourism Honourable Adebimpe Akinsola, Director of Records and Archives, Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau, Dr Kola Oseni.
Mr Ayorinde told everyone, “Lagos is now more than ready to announce its arrival to the world.”
He said that “one Lagos” was chosen for the oneness Lagos represents, adding that the Governor’s message “is that Lagos would work for each citizen that is resident in the state.”
Kadaria Ahmed, a former journalist for the British Broadcasting Cooperation hosted the question and answer session with Priscilla Nwikpo.
The All Progressives Congress, APC which secured the majority votes in Lagos was praised by the guests present.
The Love Lagos Weekend continues at this year’s Notting Hill Carnival. It would also take center stage at the Toronto World International Film Festival, next month.
Mr Ayorinde stated that it was “noteworthy that Lagos was the first African city to be selected for this honour to showcase (8) films for the red carpet premiers.”
Audiences will have the opportunity to see premieres of films: The Wedding Party, 93 days, The Arbitration, Okafor’s Law, 76, Green White Green, Just Not Married and Taxi Driver.
A source noted to this blog that representatives of the Governor are expected to attend the Lagos Corner on Adela Street on Monday (August 29).
