A Peoples Democratic Party chief in Bayelsa State, Senator Nimi Barigha-Amange, has said there is no reason to suspect that the Federal Government is using Senator Ali Modu Sheriff to destabilise the party.
Barigha-Amange, a former member representing Bayelsa East in the Senate, spoke in a telephone interview on Saturday against the backdrop of the suspicion among some PDP members about the crisis in the party.
The senator said his standpoint was born out of the fact that it was PDP members that invited Sheriff to come and lead the party.
Barigha-Amange recalled that there were a lot of protests then from the original members of the party including members of the Board of Trustees on the way Sheriff was brought in.
The Senator stated, “I do not have any reason to suspect the Federal Government in the sense that we brought in Sheriff. Sheriff did not come on his own.
“People invited him to come and head the party and within that period, there were a lot of protests from the original members of the PDP including the BoT members.
“They protested against bringing Sheriff to the scene but some persons insisted and they did it but when they found out that what they wanted him to do, he (Sheriff) was not ready to do, the problem began.
“Sheriff himself wanted to remain the chairman even when the presidential candidate’s position had been zoned to the North.”
