Buruji Kashamu, a popular business man, who represented Ogun-East Senatorial District from 2015-2019, has died.Â
The former lawmaker, 62, who contested under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the governorship election of Ogun State in 2019, and lost to Dapo Abiodun, was said to have tested positive to the deadly COVID-19.
He died of the complication this afternoon, Ben Bruce-Murray, a member of the 8th Senate, who served with Senator Kashamu has confirmed.
Senator Kashamu passed on hours after the death of Abdufatah Adeyanju, a former member of the PDP National Working Committee in Ogun State, was announced.
Before his death today at the First Cardiologist Consultants in Lagos, Senator Kashamu, was fighting to remain in charge of the party’s NWC.
The lawmaker also had a long battle over his extradition to the United State on drug related offences.Â
In 2015, Senator Kashamu’s home was raided by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), but he successfully barricaded himself in the toilet and prevented his arrest.
