Fiona Onasanya, the Member of Parliament for Peterborough has been charged with two-count of seeking to pervert the course of justice.
The 34-year-old, a solicitor by training, who defeated the Conservative candidate Stewart Jackson in order to win the seat for the Labour party in the 2017 election, appeared at Westminster Magistrate’s Court on 12 July.
She is accused of lying about who was behind the wheel of a vehicle that was speeding on 24 July 2017 and 23 August 2017.
According to court documents, Ms Onasanya and her junior brother Festus Onansanya were caught speeding on July 24, however the points were passed on to Aleks Antipow, a third party.
The allegations are similar to the charges that brought an end to Chris Huhne’s career.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson confirmed that “Fiona Oluyinka Onasanya, 34, from Peterborough has been charged with one count of perverting the course of justice.”
The lawmaker, who has of Nigerian descent is due to appear at the Old Bailey with her brother Festus, 33 on 13 August.
