Tributes have poured in for Deji Tinubu, a Special Adviser on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives to the Lagos State Government, who died on Thursday.
Mr Tinubu, is said to have collapsed during a novelty match in Epe, Lagos.
The former Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission was confirmed dead at the Epe General Hospital.
The Lagos State Government said Mr Tinubu, the son of late Kafaru Tinubu, one of Nigeria’s foremost police officers, is survived by an aged mother, Bintu Tinubu and wife, Yemisi.
An autopsy is expected to be carried out while burial arrangements will be announced by the family.
Governor Akinwumi Ambode, who gave a statement through the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kehinde Bamigbetan, is in “shock.”
“We are still in shock. All of us at the State Executive Council are in disbelief.”
The Governor described the deceased as a “good and committed patriot who brought his passion to his job. He was a gentleman who maintained excellent team spirit.
“We shall miss him.”
The Nigeria Football Federation wrote: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of former Executive Committee member of the NFF, Mr. Deji Tinubu following his sudden demise last night.
“We are still in shock as we pray for the repose of his soul. #RIPDejiTinubu.”
