By Adenike Lucas

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Willie Obiano after he was relected as the Governor of Anambra on Saturday.

Nigeria’s Commander in Chief, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC greeted Mr Obiano who is from a different party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

“I congratulate Governor Willie Obiano on his re-election,” he tweeted. “Let me also commend the people of Anambra State.”

The President also commended the “Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies and all other stakeholders, on the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s election.”

He said: “The peaceful conduct and outcome of the Anambra election is an important step in the right direction, as we continue our electoral reform efforts. I am determined to give Nigeria free and fair elections, no matter which way the results swing.

“I wish Governor Obiano a successful second term in office, and assure him that the Federal Government under my watch will continue to work with him for the peace, progress and development of Anambra State.”

Mr Obiano won the elections with 234,471 votes. His closest rival from the APC Tony Nwoye got 98,752 votes.

The Peoples Democratic Party’s Obaze Oseloka secured 70, 293 votes and has rejected the results.

He said: “The over voting and inconsistencies between the counted ballots and card reader data remains exceedingly worrisome. “The uniformity of the incumbent governor wining 21 local governments is a political aberration in the context of Anambra politics. “The election results as reported, shows that nothing matters to the Anambra electorate. The people have spoken. They have taken a cursory long term view of what they wish for Anambra State.”
