Jeff Sessions will appear before the Senate intelligence committee later today, to give evidence about alleged Russian ‘meddling’ into the 2016 presidential election.
Mr Sessions, a four term senator from Alabama, who now wants the hearing to be made public, denied holding any meetings with the Russian ambassador to the United States during the elections.
A Justice Department spokesperson said: “The Attorney General has requested that this hearing be public. He believes it is important for the American public to hear the truth directly from him.”

On Thursday, former FBI director, James Comey alluded that he was fired by President Donald Trump because of the investigation into whether Russia helped the Republican Commander in Chief, swing the elections.
Mr Sessions, who has now been forced to recuse himself from the investigation, admitted meeting with Sergey Kislyak twice last year.
Mr Comey hinted that there might have been further meetings between Mr Sessios and the Russian ambassador.
The President has criticised Mr Comey on twitter. His criticism are seen as inappropriate by many.
Lawmakers in the Senate will now question Mr Sessions about his contact with Russian officials during the US Presidential campaign and his role in Mr Comey’s firing.
In a letter, Mr Sessions said: “In light of reports regarding Mr Comey’s recent testimony before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, it is important that I have an opportunity to address these matters in the appropriate forum.”
