Saraki Denies Involvement In Vehicle Import Row

Senator Bukola Saraki’s spokesman has denied the allegations made by the member for Borno South that the Senate President was involved in the importation of a vehicle that was seized by the Nigerian Customs Service.

At plenary today, Senator Ndume who is currently facing a four-count charge of allegedly sponsoring Boko Haram, raised a point of order based “on the alleged seizure by Nigerian Customs of a bullet proof car belonging to the Senate President.”

Sahara Reporters claimed in its report that the Nigerian Customs officers in Lagos had on January 11, seized a Range Rover SUV from the Senate President, but Yusuph Olaniyonu, the Special Adviser to Senator Saraki on Media and Publicity dismissed the allegation, stating that it “lacked basis and was an outright falsehood.

“From the facts and documents about the seized vehicle, it is obvious that the Senate President has nothing to do with the importation of any vehicle.

“A supplier was engaged by the Senate to supply a vehicle. While transferring the vehicle between Lagos and Abuja, it was impounded by the Customs. We believe that is an issue between the supplier and the Customs because the Senate has not taken delivery. So, why is somebody trying to drag in the name of Saraki into the issue.

“The documents on the vehicle are there for the general public to view and make their conclusions. Now, that the matter has been referred to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, all the facts will be out,” Olaniyonu stated.

Sahara Reporters had also falsely claimed that Senator Dino Melaye, an ally of Senator Saraki, was not a graduate.

This was quickly corrected by Senator Melaye, who revealed that he was pursuing his seventh degree at the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Zaria.
