Trump’s NSA Adviser Resigns Over Reported Discussions With Russian Ambassador

By Danjuma Aliyu

US National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has resigned following reports he had spoken to Russian diplomat before Donald Trump took office.

As a private citizen, Michael Flynn, allegedly broke the 1799 Logan Act, by discussing lifting sanctions against Moscow, which was imposed by the Obama administration before President Trump assumed office in January.

The 1799 Logan Act bans Private Citizens from negotiating with countries with which the US is in dispute.

General Flynn, a retired solider, who was appointed for the senior post less than a month ago, at first denied the conversation took place.

The 57-year-old served in Iraq and Afghanistan before being appointed director of the Defence Intelligence Agency in 2012. He was fired by President Barack Obama in 2014 following continued complaints over his leadership style.

In a resignation letter seen by DENISAURUS NEWS, Michael Flynn admits to giving the Vice-President Mike Pence and others “with incomplete information regarding my phone calls with the Russian Ambassador.

However, he makes to attempt to explain the reason for his calls.”These calls were to facilitate a smooth transition and begin to build the necessary relationships between the President, his advisors and foreign leaders. Such calls are standard practice in any transition of this magnitude.

“I am tendering my resignation , honored to have served our nation and the American people in such a distinguished way.

I am also extremely honored to have served President Trump, who in just three weeks, has reoriented American foreign policy in fundamental ways to restore America’s leadership position in the world.”
