Crowdfunding Page Set Up To Help Family Of 12-Year-Old School Boy Who Died After Falling Down Stairs

By Christain Smith

A total of £3,451 has been raised for the family of a 12-year-old boy who died after falling down a staircase at a school in Norwich.

Michael Sousa, a pupil at Jane Austen College, fell on stairs at the school, on Monday, January 23, just a day after his 12th birthday.

He suffered head injuries after the fall and was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge – where he died on Thursday, 2 February.

The college principal Rebecca Handley Kirk said staff and students “are devastated by these events, and we send our thoughts and our love to Michael’s family and friends.

“Michael had only joined us in September, but was already becoming a well-known student throughout the school, thanks to his lively personality.

“Michael enjoyed football, making jokes and being with his friends.

“These tragic events are upsetting for students, parents, and staff, but we will continue to support each other, as a strong and loving school community, and we will be making time to remember Michael in the days and weeks ahead.”

More than 200 people contributed to the just giving fund page to help the mother of the year seven student, who had had to give up her job as a support worker after the incident.
