Martin McGuinness, Northern Ireland’s deputy first minister, is to resign in protest against the handling of a botched heating scheme that is likely to cost taxpayers £490m.
As of 17:00 clock today, McGuinness of Sinn Féin will no longer be Deputy Minister of Northern Ireland. This news was confirmed by Mark Devenport, @markdevenport the BBC Northern Ireland’s political editor.
Sinn Féin has said it will not replace Mr McGuiness, hence there will need to be a new election to the Northern Ireland Assembly.
