Abdulrasheed Bawa, the man who took over the reign at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC after the sack of Magu has been given the chop by the new President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
President Tinubu sent Bawa packing following allegation of abuse of office.
A statement signed by the Director of Information in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, confirmed this news.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from office of Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office,” Willie Bassey wrote in the statement seen by DENISAURUS News.
He explained that “this follows weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.
“Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.”
Now staff of the agency have informed DENISAURUS News exclusively of some of the details of the abuse.
The staff who want to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal, described full how power had intoxicated their boss.
Following his promotion has chairman of the anti-corruption agency, Bawa, who emerged after sacking Ibrahim Magu, “was power drunk.”
The staff members also gave details of how Bawa was taking only his own people to courses and omitting anyone else out.
He “introduced nepotism in the commission whereby he has created his own cabal who does what they like by matching on toes of staff especially course mate of their boss.
“On the course, you will only see Kabiru, Iliyas, Abdul Kareem in the list.”
Information at our disposal revealed how Bawa shares exotic cars to his cabals as well as sending them overseas training at different times.
“Many of those cabals have acquired mansion in places like Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi and Sokoto and they are also connected to some Bureau de change operators which they sent huge amount of dollars to invest,” the source said to DENISAURUS News exclusively.
Information also revealed that one of his boys who also is from Kebbi State “wedded recently in Kebbi, where who is who attended the said occasion that generated side talks in Kebbi State.”
Bawa who was also like disgraced Magu, who was openly arrested then sacked, had his own cabal whom he empowered.
“That Bawa’s cabal which included one Sambo Mayana, Rufa’i Zaki, Mahmud Tukur, Ngunan Kakagwa, Shehu Ala and many more, DENISAURUS News gathered.
“Some of the cabal are directly working in his office, while some falls within the Chairman Monitoring Unit, who are assigned to investigate high profile cases.
“That the CMU are the arrowhead in collecting kick back for Abdulrasheed Bawa from highly placed politicians and business mogul.”
Inside sources also gave instances of Bawa’s heavy handiness and abuse of staff.
He was said to have abused “the present Acting Chairman Abdulkarim Chukkol and the Director of Intelligence Malam Sa’ad Abubakar as well as giving them directives to act on a matter whether they like it or not.”
DENISAURUS News contacted the Presidency for comment on Bawa’s suspension, but no response was given.
The paper has been made to understand that corruption and abuse of office was so much promoted and encouraged during the leadership of Bawa.
According to our sources, “unprofessional conduct, extortion, due diligence, indiscipline, and nepotism have been the order of day in the commission.”
The president has been advised to “pursue the matter to the fullest and to ensure the highest punishment is served to any corrupt elements found.”
