The lawmaker for Kogi West Senatorial District, who is known for speaking truth to power, has been detained in prison. 

Senator Dino Melaye, who appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lokoja, will remain behind bars till June 11, when hearing of the suit brought by police against him and three others will begin.

Chief Magistrate Suleiman Abdulahi, who sat over the preliminary hearing, refused to give the lawmaker bail.

Instead, Mr Suleiman ordered that Senator Melaye should be remanded at the custody of the Inspector-General of Police.
