The first results have been released. Chi Onuwurah held onto Newcastle-Upon-Tyne for the Labour party. 

The British Nigerian MP received 24,071 votes, while her closest rival Steve Kyte, a Conservative got less than ten thousand.

She said: “So proud & grateful to be re-elected as MP for my home city, Newcastle-Central. Thanks to everyone who voted for me & everyone who voted.”
