The Liberal Democrat membership has increased by a few thousands since last week when the Prime Minister, Theresa May announced a snap election for June 8.
12, 5000 people joined the the anti-Brexit party since Tuesday.
The Liberal Democrat now stands at a landmark 100,000 members – the highest figure it has ever been since the mid-1990s.
According to the party leader, membership could even surpass the current figure within days. It will give it its largest membership since its formation in 1994.
Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farrons who went to present the party’s candidate George Turner in Vauxhall, said: “Thousands of people are joining the Liberal Democrats every day because they want to change Britain’s future.
“People want a strong opposition to Theresa May’s Hard Brexit agenda and the Liberal Democrats are the only party challenging them up and down the country. Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour has completely failed, offering no opposition whatsoever and giving Theresa May a blank cheque to pursue a Hard Brexit.
“This election is your chance to change the direction of our country. If you want to stop a disastrous Hard Brexit, if you want to keep Britain in the Single Market, if you want a strong opposition to fight for an open, tolerant and united Britain, this is your chance.”
The Leader of the Labour party, Jeremy Corbyn has helped his party increase its membership since he was elected.
Labour, the official opposition currently has over half a million members.
