EX-Governor OF Adamawa Jailed For 5 Years

A former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governor of Adamawa State has been jailed for five years for failing to obey the procurement laws of the state.

Mr Bala Ngilari, was found guilty on all five counts of conspiracy to award contract amounting to the tune of N167, 812,500 for the purchase of 25 units of operational official vehicles for the state without compliance with due process.

Jailing him, Justice Nathan Musa said, the convict could serve his sentence in “any jail in this country of his choice. But, in the meantime, he will be held here in the Yola Prison.”

Mr Ngillari has said that he would appeal the sentence.

His legal team, led by Samuel Toni, SAN, argued that Mr Ngilari should be not face prison based on  his “invaluable contribution while he was the governor of the state during the trying moment of insurgency.”
