The Ogun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has supended senator Buruji Kahamu for allegedly participating in anti-party activities.
Senator Kashamu who is reportedly wanted in the United States in connection with drug offences, was declared the winner of the Ogun-East senatorial district in 2015.
The rep member for Ogun-East who aligned with the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the party, was suspened alongside Bayo Dayo, Pegba Otemolu, Semiolu Sodipo, Fatai Adeyanju, Segun Seriki, Daisi Akitan and Bowale Solaja.
A statement from the state party chairman says the suspension was with immediate effect.
Mr Olawale Ogundele said the decision was taken following a report of a panel “which was consitiuted in June 2016 to investigate allegations of financial improprieties, anti-party activities and sundry reckless acts that are capable of brining our great party to disrepute.”
The suspension of Mr Kashamu is said to be based on that report which was submitted to the Executive Committee of the party.
Mr Ogundele noted in his statement, today (November 25), that the findings of the panel includes the recommendation to suspend Mr Kashamu with the seven others mentioned above.
“Their names have also been forwarded to the national secretariat of the party for necessary further appropriate disciplinary actions,” the statement reads further.
Senator Kashamu supported the Sheriff faction of the party. A ruling by the Supreme Court on November 24, struck out all interlocutors appeals filed by the faction of the former Borno Governor.
Mr Sheriff was insisting that he was the authentic chairman of the PDP however, a Court of Appeal on Wednesday, November 23, declared Ahmed Makarfi the authentic PDP leader.
Senator Kashamu has denied he was suspended via a statement released by his media adviser.
Mr Austin Oniyokor statement says “it was preposterous that an impostor like Ogundele, who is standing trial for theft and burglary before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Abeokuta, could claim to have suspended well-meaning elders and leaders of the party.
“The purported suspension of a senator and others who are members of the National Executive Committee by some impostors is at best a comic-relief of no consequence whatsoever.
“Ogundele and his co-travellers are better known for their duplicitous flirtations which borders on the politics of bread and butter,” Mr Oniyokor said in the statement.
“They are a hungry lot who are only loyal to their stomach. Today, they are in talks with the All Progressives Congress. Tomorrow, they are in talks with the Alliance for Democracy. Only God knows where they will go the day after.”
