A Senator from Kogi West has served the Independent National Electoral Commision, INEC a restraining order from proceeding with the process to remove him from the Senate.
A petition to recall Senator Dino Melaye includes names of constituents – some of whom have even died. The Senator argued that this was down to foul play from the Kogi State Governor who is so desperate to see him off.
Senator Meleye, who emerged as the best senator of the year in 2016, has constantly called out Governor Yayaha Bello for falling to pay the salaries of civil servants in the state.
The lawmaker said it was the reason why the Governor and his appointees were out to get him out of office by seeking his sack from the upper chamber.
The restraining order will stop INEC officials, who have rushed to set a timetall for the recall, from going ahead with the plot, until at least a suit brought by Senator Melaye is heard on 29 September.
INEC’s director of publicity, Mr Oluwole Osaze-uzzi has said they would abide by all the stipulations outlined by the court.
