Ghana opposition leader ‘confident’ of election victory

The leader of the main opposition in Ghana,  Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed confidence over the December 7 elections.

He said his party, the New Patriotic Party, NPP, was “quietly confident” it had victory over President John Mahama.

He believed that his party had also taken a majority of seats in parliament in this week’s election.

In a tweet, the 72 year- old, who has run for the top office in Ghana three times, said: “I’ve received words of congratulation from Mr Greenstreet, Mrs Rawlings, Dr Nduom, Dr Mahama and Mr Yeboah. I thank them.”

A few media outlet in the West African country are projected a win for Mr Akufo-Addo, a former Attorney General.

In it’s analysis Mr Akufo-Addo, leads with 54.8 percent, based on 190 constituencies, while the incumbent president, Mr Mahama’s percent was based on 217 constituencies out of 275 in total.

The electoral commission is et to begin releasing results today.

Last month, the editor-in-chief of DENISAURUS openly declared support for Mr Akufo-Addo who was campaigning for change.

A year and a half ago, President Muhammadu Buhari campaigned for change and won the elections in Nigeria .

President Buhari, who had contested four consecutive times was the first opposition leader to defeat an incumbent in the history of Nigeria.
