Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki, the father of the National Security Adviser to Goodluck Jonathan, has died at a private hospital in Abuja, at the age of 93.
Retired col. Sambo Dasuki who is still in detention over allegations of corruption was granted leave to visit his father, the 18th Sultan of Sokoto before he died last night.
The former Sultan will be buried today according to Islamic rites.
Secretary to the Sultanate Council, Alhaji Faruk Ladan, announced in a statement he issued in Hausa, saying that the 18th Sultan of Sokoto, Dasuki, died on Monday night and that his funeral service would take place after Dhuhr prayer in the afternoon of today, November 15, at the Sultan Bello Mosque, Sokoto.
President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a message of condolence to the Dasuki family and to the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs “over the demise of the remarkable traditional ruler that devoted his life, tenure of office to the promotion of peaceful co-existence and tolerance among diverse ethnic groups in Nigeria.”
The Sultan is the Titular ruler of the Sokoto Caliphate and the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims.
